Kindergarten Registration

- For students who turn five before September 1, 2025: Kindergarten registration will open in early February 2025
- The deadline for on-time Kindergarten registration is May 7, 2025
- School placement notifications will be sent in June for all students who register on time
- Once a student’s registration is complete, the family will be asked to rank their preferences for schools (up to four school)
- All students who live in Providence will have a school placements, but placement at a specific school is not guaranteed. At schools where demand is higher than capacity, students assigned via the school choice lottery
- Siblings of current students are given preference for placement at the same school
- Families are given preference for a minimum of two neighborhood schools. A student’s neighborhood schools are any schools within 1 mile of their home address, or if there are not two within 1 mile, the two closest schools that are closest to home

How to register
Note: Kindergarten registration for 2025-26 will open in February.
- Online: Click “register here” to enter Skyward, the student registration and information portal. All requirements must be scanned and uploaded to the application portal. Registrations submitted without requirements will not be processed. A team member will follow up with a phone call to process the registration.
- In person: Computers for family use are available at the Registration Center at 325 Ocean Street during school hours.
Required Documents
- For all students:
- Proof of Providence Residency - Provide one of the following: Utility bill (not a cell phone or internet bill), pay stub, lease, bank statement-all dated within 60 days of registration
- Student Age Verification Document: Original birth certificate, passport, residency card, OR I-94
- Parent/Guardian photo identification
- Immunization Records
- Physical Exam Form
- Lead Screening
- For some students:
- Tuberculosis Screening Test: Students who have traveled outside of the United States for more than 90 days or who were born outside of the United States are required to show proof of tuberculosis screening
- In-person language screening for English language development service eligibility
- Special education documentation current special education services
Age for Enrollment
Every child who is five years of age on or before September 1st of each school year shall be eligible to attend kindergarten. There are no exceptions to this policy.
Translating Skyward, the student registration and information system, into another language:
- Use Chrome Browser
- Go to any page in Skyward and right-click using your mouse or touchpad. The option to translate will show up in the menu.
- If you don't see your chosen language as an option, you may need to click on the three stacked dots to the right to see language options.
