• The Teacher Academy is in full swing and the students take CPR, First Aid and Babysitting classes to become certified. They also study for and are given the Para Pro Assessment exam in the spring. These students also take an EEP course under the guidance of Rhode Island College and earn 3 transferable college credits from RIC. We are in the process of establishing a mentoring program for these students to go into middle schools to tutor and mentor younger students. The senior students also go on full internships to 3 elementary schools in the spring. They prepare a lesson plan and teach it to a class under the guidance of the classroom teacher. We have added a new partnership to this program this year allowing the newcomer students in Mount Pleasant to shadow and learn from our Teacher Academy students. This has worked well for these newcomer students who seem to feel lost and out of place in our school. The teacher Academy students spend one on one time with these students to interpret school work, connect on a social atmosphere, feel free to ask questions and be understood in the language they know and become more established in the school.

Our Pre-Engineering Academy is also new and we are the only school to integrate Algebra 1 and 2 courses into the engineering curriculum. These students have built remote controlled race cars, remote controlled boats, competed in bridge building competitions and are exposed to special events and tours from our US Navy. They have access to a 3D printer and learn solid works as part of their training
